AP. English III Lesson Plans for March 27 – 31, 2017

The Great Gatsby

M – T: The students will view and answer questions over the Biography Channel video, F. Scott Fitzgerald: The Great American Dreamer.

W – Th: Characterization: The students will read Chapter 1 of The Great Gatsby and find an example of direct exposition with which the author presents a dominant trait of the characters Nick Carraway, Jay Gatsby, Tom Buchanan, and Daisy Buchanan.

F: The  students will answer seven AP test multiple choice format questions over chapter one of  The Great Gatsby.

M & T: The students will present their rhetorical analysis of selected editorial cartoons to the class.

W: Mr. Hale will distribute ACT information and STAAR test results to the class.

Th: The students will complete a test on the art of rhetoric.

F: The students will complete their rhetorical analysis of editorial cartoons presentations to the class.

English III Lesson Plans for January 25 – 29, 2016

M: The students will complete SAT-based Vocabulary Lesson 16. Raven project and narrative essay explained and assigned (due February 10). The student will research folklore about ravens in different cultures (due Thursday).

T: The students will read and discuss The Tell-Tale Heart.

W: Early Release

Th: The students will report to the class the information they gathered from researching ravens in the folklore of different nations and cultures.

F: The students will discuss and take notes over sound devices and read The Raven.

English III Lesson Plans for January 4 – 8, 2016

The Crucible

M: The students will file graded papers and complete the Act IV Vocabulary Builder.

T: The students will read pages 1217 – 1225, citing examples of John Proctor’s role as the tragic hero.

W: The students will read pages 1226 – 1229 and discuss Proctor’s main concerns in this passage.

Th: The students will read pages 1230 – 1233, discuss how Proctor’s statements reflect those of a tragic hero, and complete the Act IV study guide.

F: The students will view the motion picture, The Crucible, with the view of writing a review of it at the conclusion.

A.P. English III Lesson Plans for October 26 – 30, 2015

M: The student groups for To Kill a Mockingbird Powerpoint presentations will review review their research plan, identify any unresolved questions, plan final proofread, review citation format, and establish presentation order. Distribute SAT-based vocabulary lesson 9, All About Time, due Thursday.

T: The student groups will meet in Plato Lab to complete Powerpoint presentations.

W – F: The student groups will present their To Kill a Mockingbird Powerpoint introductions.

A. P. English III Lesson Plans for October 5 – 9, 2015

M: The students will read the epistle, Letters from an American Farmer, red classroom set, pgs. 198 – 199 and complete Critical Thinking handout due Wednesday, October 7.

T:The students will complete SAT-based Vocabulary Lesson 7: Social Sciences.

W: The students will complete a review for the nine weeks test to be given Tuesday, October 13.

Th: To conclude the Colonial American Dream unit, the students will write a compare/contrast essay. To prepare, the students will watch the first installment of the PBS documentary, Colonial House.

F: The students will watch the final installment of Colonial House.

A.P. English III Lesson Plans for September 14 – 18, 2015

M – W: The students will present to the class the analysis they have prepared for two editorial cartoons, to include attribution, subject and evidence, point cartoonist is attempting to make, tone, and rhetorical appeal.

Th: The student will take the ASVAB.

F: The students will complete the Rhetoric Unit Test.
