To Kill a Mockingbird / SAT-based Vocabulary

M: The students will discuss and complete Vocabulary Lesson 15 Appearances and Attitudes II.

T: During the study of To Kill a Mockingbird, each student has been assigned a set of pages which he/she will be responsible for presenting to the class.Project requirements are: a list of five to ten defined vocabulary words from the selection, a ten-question quiz with answer key, and a five-point outline with which they will lead the class discussion. Discussion points must include characterization of Scout, Jem, Atticus or Boo Radley, theme of the mockingbird image, maturation, prejudice or courage, and setting.

T: The students will read and discuss pages. 827 – 837, identifying literary  terms within the selection.

W: The students will read and discus pages 837 – 835, identifying literary terms within the selection.

Th: The students will complete Critical Review, pg. 845, and review for the test.

F: The students will demonstrate knowledge of The Rime of the Ancient Mariner on a test.

M & T: Student-Led Learning Project: Given an assigned section of the novel, the students will select appropriate defined vocabulary, a five-point outline, and will lead a class discussion of setting, characterization, and theme over their assigned section.

W: The students will complete a Learning Experiences chart for the characters Scout and Jem in the novel.

Th: The students will complete the Nine Weeks Test.

F: The students will begin the review for the semester exam.

M: The students will complete Act V, discussing the application of “Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely.” to the play.

T: The students will complete the Act V study guide.

W: Completion Day – the students will complete and turn in any unfinished assignments.

Th: The students will complete the Nine Weeks Test.

F: The students will begin viewing the Macbeth motion picture.

Macbeth

M: The students will review the last three predictions made by the witches and predict how these may or may not come true; the students will also predict the fate of Lady Macbeth. Read Act V, scenes 1 – 3. Assign Act V Vocabulary Builder. Announce Act IV quiz for Thursday.

T: The students will read Act V, scenes 4 – 7. Discuss Macbeth’s mental state and the resolution of the witches’ predictions.

W: The students will compete the Act V study guide. Act V Vocabulary Builder due.

Th: The students will complete the Act IV Quiz.

F: The students will complete the SAT prep exercise 10.

M: Student-led learning will be conducted for pages 45 – 59 of the novel. Ten-question quiz and key, vocabulary, and five-point discussion outline due.  Presenter will lead discussion. Vocabulary for pages 60 – 74 will be distributed.

T: Same as above for pages 60 – 74. Vocabulary for pages 75 – 50 will be distributed.

M: The students will define, identify, and discuss the characteristics of the tragic hero and find examples in the character, Macbeth.

T: The students will demonstrate knowledge of Act I of Macbeth. Concepts: reading comprehension, foreshadowing, setting, and characterization.

W & Th: The students will read and discuss Macbeth, Act III scenes i – iv. Concepts: plot, prediction, themes,conflict and imagery.

F: The students will complete the study guide for Macbeth, Act III.
