English III Lesson Plan for January 18 – 22, 2016

M: School Holiday

T: The students will take notes and discuss the elements of Gothic literature.

W: The students will complete the English III Benchmark exam, read “An Appointment in Samara, and complete an irony of situation exercise.

Th: The students will view the Dr. Eliott Engel video on the life of Edgar Allan Poe, the recurring themes in his work, and complete the accompanying exercise.

F: The students will compete the SAT-based vocabulary lesson 16.

T: The students will complete the TKAM pgs. 272 – 281 quiz and the 11th grade ELA Benchmark Exam.

W: TKAM Student-Led Learning Project: Discussion of TKAM pages 272 – 281 will include the following points:

  • Characterization of Boo Radley
  • Maturation of Scout
  • Lessons Learned

Th & F: The students will view the motion picture, To Kill a Mockingbird, evaluating how messages presented reflect social and cultural views.

English III Lesson Plans for January 11 – 15, 2016

The Crucible

M – W: The students will view The Crucible motion picture, comparing and contrasting the play to the screenplay, both of which were written by Arthur Miller.

W: Why I Wrote “The Crucible”  commentary analysis due.

Th: The students will demonstrate knowledge of The Crucible in a major test.

F: The students will complete the SAT-based vocabulary exercise, QUACK! Lesson 5.

 

English III Lesson Plans for October 26 – 30, 2015

M & T: The students will review for the A Nation is Born Unit Test.

W: The students will be introduced to the relevant factors that produced the witch hysteria in Salem, Massachusetts, the winter of 1692 – 1693.

Th: The students will complete the A Nation is Born unit test.

F: The students will view the Biography channel documentary, The Salem Witch Trials,  and complete its viewing assignment.

A.P. English III Lesson Plans for October 26 – 30, 2015

M: The student groups for To Kill a Mockingbird Powerpoint presentations will review review their research plan, identify any unresolved questions, plan final proofread, review citation format, and establish presentation order. Distribute SAT-based vocabulary lesson 9, All About Time, due Thursday.

T: The student groups will meet in Plato Lab to complete Powerpoint presentations.

W – F: The student groups will present their To Kill a Mockingbird Powerpoint introductions.

English III Lesson Plans for October 5 – 9, 2015

M & T: The students will be introduced to the Revolutionary Literature unit, red classroom set, pgs. 120 – 125. Patrick Henry biography, pg. 99. Discuss literary terms allusion, parallelism, rhetorical question.

W: The students will read Speech in the Virginia Convention, pgs. 101 – 103.

Th: The students will review for the nine weeks test, to be given Tues, Oct. 13

F: The students will complete the SAT-based vocabulary QUACK! Lesson 2.

English III Lesson Plans for September 14 – 18, 2015

M: The students will begin the Puritan Influence Unit. Notes and discussion of literary term sermon. They will read Jonathan Edwards biographical info pg. 85 Homework due Tuesday, Sept. 15: bring the lyrics of your  favorite love song. Discussion of fire drill and shelter in place emergency procedures.

T: The students will complete the Meeting of Cultures test.

W: The students will read Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God and identify imagery and main points.

Th: The students will take the ASVAB and be introduced to the theme of survival in Gone with the Wind.

F: The students will view the first installment of Gone with the Wind, noting examples of how the characters survive with the changed Southern culture.

M – W: The students will present to the class the analysis they have prepared for two editorial cartoons, to include attribution, subject and evidence, point cartoonist is attempting to make, tone, and rhetorical appeal.

Th: The student will take the ASVAB.

F: The students will complete the Rhetoric Unit Test.

A.P. English III Lesson Plans for September 7 – 11, 2015

M: School Holiday

T:Announce Rhetoric Test for Thursday, September 17. Assign extra-credit project due Oct. 1 for A.P. literary terms test. Teacher-generated notes on the three tenets of the American Dream. Define narrative and historical narrative. Read Captain John Smith biographical sketch, pg. 64 and introduce selection vocabulary and footnotes.

W: Postcards from Summer Reading due.(test grade)

W – F: The students will present their rhetorical analysis of selected  editorial cartoons to the class. (test grade)

Th: SAT-based vocabulary lesson 3 due.
