English III Lesson Plans for February 29 – March 4, 2016.

M: The students will be introduced to the work of Mark Twain; notes and discussion.

T: The students will view the Dr. Elliot Engel video lecture over the work of Mark Twain and complete its accompanying questions.

W: The students will complete the Shadows of the Imagination test over Poe and Hawthorne.

Th & F: The students will read The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County and complete the exercise on local dialect.

M & T: The students will finish reading the allegory, Young Goodman Brown.

W & Th: The students will identify and interpret five faith allegorical statements from Young Goodman Brown.

F: The students will compete SAT-based vocabulary lesson 18 Words with Tales Attached.

M: The students will make journal entries. Third nine weeks journals are due Friday, March 4th.

T: The students will see a Powerpoint presentation and compile notes on the common characteristics of the archetypal hero. Assignment: Vocabulary Builder WB pg. 41

W: The students will read Knights of Legend, pg. 169 and Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, pgs. 171 – 179. Distribute Medieval Romance Literary Analysis graphic organizer, WB pg. 39.

Th: The students will complete Sir Gawain and the the Green Knight, pgs. 180 – 183, and Morte D’Arthur, pgs. 185 – 195.

F: The students will complete and turn in the Medieval Romance Literary Analysis assignment. Journal Due – Test Grade

M: The students will be in the Plato lab typing the final draft of their pre-production memo concerning the film version of The Raven.

T: The students will discuss and take notes on Gothic literature, the life and writing influences of Nathaniel Hawthorne, and the allegory.

W: Raven memo due. The students will view a video on the writing style of Nathaniel Hawthorne. Early dismissal for teacher training.

Th & F: The students will read Young Goodman Brown.

Th: The students will compete SAT-based Vocabulary Lesson 17 Size and Shape.

T – W: In groups, the students will explicate The Raven, recognizing the sound devices alliteration and repetition, and the four recurring themes in the work of Edgar Allan Poe.

Th – F: The students will do research to write a proposal to produce a movie version of The Raven. The proposal will include setting and location, casting, music, set decoration, and props.
