English III Lesson Plans for October 26 – 30, 2015

M & T: The students will review for the A Nation is Born Unit Test.

W: The students will be introduced to the relevant factors that produced the witch hysteria in Salem, Massachusetts, the winter of 1692 – 1693.

Th: The students will complete the A Nation is Born unit test.

F: The students will view the Biography channel documentary, The Salem Witch Trials,  and complete its viewing assignment.

A.P. English III Lesson Plans for October 26 – 30, 2015

M: The student groups for To Kill a Mockingbird Powerpoint presentations will review review their research plan, identify any unresolved questions, plan final proofread, review citation format, and establish presentation order. Distribute SAT-based vocabulary lesson 9, All About Time, due Thursday.

T: The student groups will meet in Plato Lab to complete Powerpoint presentations.

W – F: The student groups will present their To Kill a Mockingbird Powerpoint introductions.

English IV Lesson Plans for October 26 – 30, 2015

M: The students will complete final editing on their college essay; due Wednesday. Assign SAT Vocabulary Lesson 9 All About Time, Thursday. Distribute and file graded papers.

T: The students will be introduced to drama and Elizabethan theater. Read and discuss pages 308 – 313.

W: Introduction to Macbeth. Read pages 314 – 315 and complete Contemporary Commentary assignment. Assign Character roles.

Th: The students will read and discuss Macbeth, Act I, scenes i & ii.

F: The students will read and discuss Macbeth. Act I, scenes iii & iv.

English III Lesson Plans for October 19 – 23, 2015

M: The students will define the literary term epistle. They will read the biographical sketch of de Crevecouer, pg. 196 and and review selection vocabulary. Read Letters from an American Farmer, pg. 198. Notes and discussion.

T: The students will define the literary term private letter. They will read the biographical sketch of Abigail Adams, pg. 196 and read Letter to Her Daughter from the New White House, pg. 200. Notes and discussion.

W: The students will write a private letter to a friend describing their room.

Th: The students will read the Benjamin Franklin biography, pgs. 136 – 137 and review selection vocabulary, pg. 149. Notes and discussion of aphorism. Read Poor Richard’s Almanack, pgs. 148 – 150 and complete Recognizing Aphorisms assignment.

F: The student will view the SAT-based vocabulary video, QUACK! and complete the Lesson 3 vocabulary exercise.

A.P. English III Lesson Plans for October 19 – 23, 2015

M: The students will complete the SAT-based vocabulary Lesson 8 from Sunny Spain.

T: The students will be grouped to begin work on a Powerpoint presentation on topics relevant to To Kill a Mockingbird. The presentations will serve as an introduction to the novel and count as a test grade. Discussion of requirements and assignment of topics.

W – F: The students will conduct library research on the To Kill a Mockingbird Powerpoint presentations.

English IV Lesson Plans for October 12 – 16, 2015

M: The students will take a nine weeks test.

T & W: The students will be the library typing their research interview questions and answers, and the final copies of their compiled career/college information.

Th & F: The students will turn in the rough drafts of their two college entrance essays and conference with the teacher about them.

M: The students will take Nine Weeks Test.

T: The students will read and identify rhetorical devices in The Declaration of Independence, pg. 140.

W: Junior students will take the PSAT.

Th: The students will define epistle and read Letters from an American Farmer, pg. 198.

F: The students will view the second installment of Gone with the Wind, and identify three types of survival portrayed in it.

M & T: The students will be introduced to the Revolutionary Literature unit, red classroom set, pgs. 120 – 125. Patrick Henry biography, pg. 99. Discuss literary terms allusion, parallelism, rhetorical question.

W: The students will read Speech in the Virginia Convention, pgs. 101 – 103.

Th: The students will review for the nine weeks test, to be given Tues, Oct. 13

F: The students will complete the SAT-based vocabulary QUACK! Lesson 2.

M: The students will read the epistle, Letters from an American Farmer, red classroom set, pgs. 198 – 199 and complete Critical Thinking handout due Wednesday, October 7.

T:The students will complete SAT-based Vocabulary Lesson 7: Social Sciences.

W: The students will complete a review for the nine weeks test to be given Tuesday, October 13.

Th: To conclude the Colonial American Dream unit, the students will write a compare/contrast essay. To prepare, the students will watch the first installment of the PBS documentary, Colonial House.

F: The students will watch the final installment of Colonial House.
