A.P. English III Lesson Plans for November 7 – 11, 2016

M: The Crucible – To introduce them to the causes and impact of the Salem Witch Trials, the students will view a Biography Channel documentary on the hysteria that swept Salem, Massachusetts the winter of 1692. Announce test for Thursday, Nov. 10 over the factors influencing that hysteria (notes and discussion from Thursday, Nov. 3).

T: Witch Hunt! Notes and discussion of McCarthyism and its influence on Arthur Miller, playwright of The Crucible.

W: The students will view a History Channel documentary and answer questions about Senator Joseph McCarthy and the House UnAmerican Activities Committee.

Th: The students will complete a test over the factors influencing the Salem witch hysteria.

F: Notes, discussion, and research assignment over Native American and Anglo influences in American English.

 

English III Lesson Plans for September 12 – 16, 2016

M: The students will define and discuss slave narrative; read Frederick Douglas’ My Bondage and My Freedom. Complete context exercise.

T & W: The History of American English: Native American & British Influences. Notes and discussion. The students will select a U. S. state name and research its etymology. Due at end of class Wednesday. Mr. Hale will distribute ACT information and STAAR test results.

Th: Make folders and return graded papers.

F: The students will view the SAT-based vocabulary video, QUACK! and complete the Lesson 2 exercise.

A.P. English III Lesson Plans for August 28 – September 2, 2016

M: The students will complete the English Universal Screener; notes and discussion of Aristotle’s Rhetorical Triangle and rhetorical appeals.

T: Distribute SAT Vocabulary 2. Analysis of editorial cartoons and the rhetorical appeals used by the cartoonists.

W & Th: The students will research and choose editorial cartoons in the computer lab for analysis and presentation to the class.

F: Test over The Art of Rhetoric notes. SAT Vocabulary 2 due.

A.P. English III Lesson Plans for February 15 – 19, 2016

M: School Holiday

T & W: The students will research the casting, location, music, set decoration, and props for a memo detailing pre-production plans for a movie version of The Raven.

Th: The students will complete SAT-based Vocabulary Lesson 17 Size and Shape

F: The students will type drafts of their Raven memo.

A.P. English III Lesson Plans for November 9 – 13, 2015

M: Counselor Jack Hale will meet with all classes to distribute and discuss the ASVAB results.

T: The student will complete the A.P. Literary Terms Test Part I A – H. Note: This test was announce the second week of school and can not be replaced by a nine weeks test.

W – F: The students will be in the library researching To Kill a Mockingbird and preparing their chapter lesson for the Student-Led Learning Project.
